What a blessing she is!! She was born on January 26th at 5:45 pm at Baptist Hospital in Nashville. I was induced and had such a great experience with everything. She was born coming in at a whopping 8 lbs, 15 and 3/4 ounces - so 9 pounds! - and 19.5 inches long with a head full of dark brown hair.
Thanks to our wonderful, talented friend Katie Mosley, we have over 100 incredible pictures of her arrival which you can view at the link to the right. Katie also took Harper's newborn photo's and I will post a link with those soon.Harper will be 4 months old in just two short days and I can't believe how fast it has gone. It's so incredible to watch this sleepy little newborn develop into a babbling, cooing, drooling, rolling, smiling baby girl. It's such an adventure and I feel so blessed that God chose us to give her too. He's so good.
Every day there is something new that she's doing and today it was her interaction with our yellow lab Sydney. Forrest and I never doubted that Syd would be good with children since she's a lab and that is just their nature, but we weren't sure how things would go at first. Sydney is ALL lab - energetic, overeager, playful, and vocal! - so we didn't know how all of those things would combine with a defenseless infant. Happily, we discovered that Sydney is great with her. She just seems to know that this little person is more delicate than the rest of us and so far the worst she has done is lick Harpers face and eat a diaper or two... Up until this point, Harper never paid much attention to Sydney. She was as much a fixture of the house as the couch to her. However, today she was very interested in Syd and was watching her all around the house and started reaching out to touch her. I hesitantly allowed this at first, unsure of what Sydney would do as she loves to (gently) nibble on fingers. She has a very soft mouth as dog trainers say, but little Harpers fingers are much smaller and more delicate than mine so I was still a little nervous to let Harper really reach those precious little hands out there... but I knew I had to do it sometime since Sydney DOES live with us and all...
Sydney was a champ. Of course she licked and kept trying to nibble but she was so gentle and loving with Harper it was adorable. Harper loved when Sydney licked her little fingers and just grinned. I think she really wanted to get a hold of Sydneys eyeballs but Sydney (understandably) wouldn't let her. She just moved her head and licked her hands again (and don't you worry....Harper got a GOOD handwashing once this was all over). There was even one time when Syd was licking her and Harper just started talking and cooing to Syd, which was adorable.
